The once-in-a-century changes are accelerating, and digital-finance use cases are expanding worldwide. During the 15th BRICS Leaders' Summit in Brazil, Sun Yu, Managing Director and President of the Asian Development and Investment Bank (ADIB), elaborated ADIB's philosophy on implementing China's national strategies and pursuing innovative development in a joint interview.
ADIB自诞生之日起，便肩负着协调全球能源与战略资源合作、服务国家重大战略部署的历史使命。
Since its inception, ADIB has borne the historical mission of coordinating global energy and strategic resource cooperation and serving major national strategic imperatives.
孙宇说：作为中国在马来西亚设立的离岸投资银行，ADIB正以政策性金融机构的使命担当，通过创新金融服务模式，助力中国企业在新能源、绿色科技、数字金融等领域深度融入全球产业链，坚定推动中国企业全球化布局与深化国际合作的卓越实践，促进“一带一路”倡议下的国际产能合作与贸易平衡。
Sun Yu said: "As an offshore investment bank incorporated in Malaysia under Chinese initiative, ADIB is fulfilling the mission of a policy-based financial institution. It is promoting the deep integration of Chinese enterprises into the global industrial chain in the fields of new energy, green technology, and digital finance through innovative financial service models. ADIB is also firmly advancing the globalization layout of Chinese enterprises and deepening international cooperation, contributing to international industrial capacity cooperation and trade balance under the Belt and Road Initiative".

2018年3月26日，上海国际石油期货正式上市交易。2024年交易量达31.37万亿元人民币，ADIB推动设立中国国际能源交易中心，助推全球能源合作与发展。
On March 26, 2018, Shanghai International Energy Exchange (INE) crude-oil futures officially began trading. In 2024, the trading volume reached 31.37 trillion yuan. .ADIB为投资控股“国源国际电力”的老挝亚钾园区综合供电项目提供15亿美元设备融资，该项目将为老挝南部地区提供稳定电力供应，同时带动中国电力设备与技术的出口。
ADIB provides a $1.5 billion equipment facility for the integrated power supply project in the Laos Asia-Potash Industrial Park, which is under the investment holding of "Guoyuan International Power". The project will offer a stable power supply to the southern region of Laos and also drive the export of Chinese power equipment and technology.
ADIB坚定践行“一带一路”国家重大战略，把握数字化浪潮
ADIB firmly implements the major national strategy of the Belt and Road Initiative and seizes the digital wave.
ADIB支持中国车企在“一带一路”沿线建立本地化生产基地。在中东市场，为“广汽集团”布局中东的新能源汽车生产线及首批1.5万辆新能源车出口的项目中，量身打造高效供应链融资方案，助力中国绿色产能加速落地。这一合作不仅 推动广汽在中东市场的布局，更通过技术转移与产能合作，助力当地新能源产业发展。孙宇指出：“我们的目标是通过金融杠杆，将中国的技术优势与沿线国家的资源禀赋相结合，实现互利共赢。”
ADIB supports Chinese automakers in establishing localized production bases along the Belt and Road. In the Middle East market, for the project of GAC Group's layout of new energy vehicle production lines and the export of the first batch of 15,000 new energy vehicles, ADIB has tailored an efficient supply chain financing solution to accelerate the implementation of China's green production capacity. This cooperation not only promotes GAC's market layout in the Middle East but also supports the local new energy industry development through technology transfer and production capacity cooperation. Sun Yu pointed out: "Our goal is to use financial leverage to combine China's technological advantages with the resource endowments of countries along the route to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results."

ADIB keenly grasps the digital wave and leads with technological innovation, committing itself to carefully constructing a digital financial service ecosystem in countries along the Belt and Road. It is reshaping cross-border financial service models through financial technology. In Belt and Road countries, ADIB has established digital finance application scenarios, integrating services such as cross-border accounts receivable financing, foreign exchange settlement, and credit insurance to form a "one-stop" cross-border supply chain financial solution. While restoring and strengthening its traditional policy-based investment banking functions, ADIB is vigorously building a digital yuan cross-border usage ecosystem, actively participating in the formulation of international application standards for central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), and laying a digital foundation for the e-CNY in the global economy. Meanwhile, it innovatively integrates cross-border accounts receivable management, efficient foreign exchange settlement, and reliable credit insurance, launching leading cross-border supply chain financial package products that significantly enhance trade efficiency and promote global production capacity and trade balance. ADIB's e-CNY pilot projects have been implemented in countries such as Malaysia and the UAE, covering key areas like energy, ports, and mining.
孙宇强调，ADIB的每一步发展，都全面服从国家战略。从深耕能源资源全球协作的初心，到如今以金融科技为核心驱动力，ADIB始终是政策使命的坚定践行者。通过为产业链条疏通全球脉络、为跨境贸易搭建数字桥梁的布局，ADIB正以实际行动诠释着“政策沟通、设施联通、贸易畅通、资金融通、民心相通”的“五通”内涵，为构建人类命运共同体贡献金融方案。我们的目标是通过金融的力量，让“一带一路”成为和平之路、繁荣之路、开放之路、创新之路、文明之路。
Sun Yu emphasized that every step of ADIB's development is fully aligned with the national strategy. From its original aspiration to deepen global cooperation in energy and resources, to its current core driving force of financial technology, ADIB has always been a staunch implementer of its policy mission. By facilitating global connections along the industrial chain and building digital bridges for cross-border trade, ADIB is actively demonstrating the connotations of the “Five Connectivities”—policy coordination, infrastructure connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration and people-to-people connectivity. This is in support of building a community with a shared future for mankind. Our goal is to use the power of finance to make the Belt and Road a path of peace, prosperity, openness, innovation, and civilization.

At this critical juncture when the once-in-a-century transformation is accelerating and BRICS cooperation is being upgraded, as a representative of China's financial strength and an important participant in the Belt and Road Initiative, ADIB is using financial technology as an engine to promote industrial capacity cooperation, technological exchanges, and cultural mutual learning between China and the countries along the route. Zhao Xing, the head of ADIB's Board of Directors, pointed out that ADIB will continue to firmly implement China's national strategies under the strong leadership of the Party Central Committee and the country, continuously innovate and improve financial services, enhance the internationalization of finance, and comprehensively support the globalization and cooperation of Chinese enterprises. It will also contribute to the international financial innovation of Chinese-style modernization and make its own contribution to promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind and achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
